Project Manager
Function
The Project Manager (PM):
· Manages all aspects of a project (project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement) (1)
· As required, project manages all allocated bid responses.
· Is a customer-oriented role and delivers solutions worldwide.
(1) Project aspects:
Project integration – Activities to integrate various elements of project management.
Scope – Activities to ascertain that the project includes all the work required and only the work required, to complete the project successfully.
Time – Activities concerning the timely completion of the project.
Cost – Planning, estimating, budgeting and controlling costs so that the project is completed within approved budget.
Quality – Activities involved in assuring that the project will satisfy the objectives for which it was undertaken.
Human resources – Activities to organize and manage the project team.
Communications – Activities concerning the timely and appropriate generation, collection, dissemination, storage and ultimate disposition of project information.
Risk – Activities concerned with conducting risk management on the project.
Procurement – Activities that purchase or acquire products, services or results, as well as contract management.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Project Management
o Ensure all projects clearly defined, planned and agreed up front.
o Plan, lead, organise, control and communicate projects to ensure successful outcomes.
o Maintain effective financial/budgetary control of all projects.
o Effective control of all project change.
o Ensure quality standards and practices are understood and followed by the project team. Where deficiencies are identified in those standards and practices; ensure they are immediately identified to the relevant person(s).
o Ensure effective project resourcing.
o Identify areas for improvement in the project management practice; and where relevant assist in the improvement of those practices.
o Promptly and pro-actively manage the resolution of all issues and risks that arise during projects.
o Input to performance appraisal for project participants.
o Keep up-to-date on project management tools and techniques.
· Communication & Reporting
o Complete all specified reporting to required timeframes.
o Identify, analyse, and promptly highlight as relevant, any key issues and/or risks.
· Teamwork
o Self-managing, take initiative and be pro-active in everything you do.
o Participate in the up-skilling and training of colleagues and new staff.
o Provide support and encouragement to other team members.
· Other
o Ensure relevant, effective working relationships and effective communication with all relevant customer, third party and eSG staff.
o Able to travel as and when reasonably requested.
o Understand, follow and improve upon all formally-communicated methodologies, processes, policies, and values.
o Always focus on delivering consistent, reliable, repeatable and scalable outcomes.
o All other duties as reasonably requested.
Essential skills and Experience
· Knowledge and Experience
o Broad, technology solution based, project management experience and success across a range of projects, organisations and technologies.
o Strongly preferred; certified in one of the mainstream project management certifications; e.g. Project Management Professional (PMP) or Prince.
o Preferably a member of one of those mainstream project management organisations.
o Preferable experience in the telecommunications sector.
· Skills
o Excellent leadership, people management, planning, budgeting and project tracking skills.
o Highly effective communication, conflict resolution and people management skills that leads to productive teams and excellent working relationships with all parties.
o Take ownership (delivery, interruptions, etc) of issues through to resolution.
o Quickly identify, analyse and pro-actively solve problems before they affect the outcomes of projects.
o Excellent English oral and written communications skills.
o Quickly learn new skills and technologies.
o Quickly gain credibility and build successful relationships with customers, third parties, and eSG staff.
o Work effectively with people across multiple organisational, functional, geographic and cultural boundaries, and across a wide spectrum of technical and professional skills.
o Work autonomously as and when required.
